Two teenagers aged 17 and 18 years, were arrested for the murder of a 17-year old girl in Mokopane. They appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder after the body of presumably a schoolmate, was found at a dumpsite outside the Mokopane CBD last week.
Police reports state that the victim left her home at 06:40 to go to school but never returned. Her body was later found by passers-by, still dressed in her school uniform. The police were notified and emergency services arrived on the scene. She was declared dead.
The two suspects were tracked down by police and arrested. They both appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder and were denied bail. The case was postponed to the 23rd of April for a formal bail application pending further investigations. The deceased was later identified by her family as Tebatjo Nkoana. The Police investigations are still continuing.
This latest murder again raises the issues of teenagers and children involved in violent crime. Two months prior to the murder of Tebtjo, a group of teenagers were arrested in Polokwane for the brutal attack on a foreign resident.
