Looting was at the order of the day during a devastating fire which completely gutted two retail outlets in Burgersfort on Thursday. Locals were seen helping themselves to groceries amid the raging flames. By the time the local Fire Department arrived on the scene, the two shops were completely destroyed.
The two stores were Save More Supermarket and Sharp Sharp Fashion Centre which are both thought to be owned by foreign nationals, although this has not yet been confirmed. The cause of the fires were not determined at the time of going to print, but police investigations are still continuing. The damage is currently being calculated by the investigators.
The Saps Provincial Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison Services Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo accompanied by the Saps Burgersfort Cluster Commander Brigadier Ria Mkhabela, the Station Commander of Burgersfort Brigadier Risimati Maluleke and the Burgersfort Detective Section Commander Colonel Elias Zwane visited the scene as part of the intervention in the ongoing Police investigations.
