A fourteen month old baby boy was found dead in a crèche yard by police in Levubu outside Thohoyandou on Tuesday morning. The baby was staying over at his father’s home when he disappeared and was later discovered, presumably murdered.
According to the police the parents of the child had been separated for some time and the baby was staying over at the father’s home in Lhwekhe village. The father stated that he and his son were asleep in the same bed when he awoke at around 20:00 to go to the bathroom. Upon his return he found that his son was not in the bed anymore.
The father contacted the police and a search for the child was immediately launched. The lifeless body of the toddler was found the following morning at the schoolyard a few metres away from the house. The body showed signs of multiple injuries. The cause of death had not yet been determined but police have launched a manhunt for suspects which could have been involved in the death of this child. This leads us to believe that the cause of death was indeed murder.
Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) involved in this matter, may contact Colonel Chabiseka Micheal Baloyi at 082 565 7345 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the crime Line SMS 32211 or the nearest Police Station.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned this heinous crime perpetrated against children.
