The 7th annual Miami Magoebaskloof MTB Challenge took place on Saturday, the 4th of August at Merensky High School. Laerskool Tzaneen Primary’s star cyclist, Pelo Makoti took first place in the Sub-Nipper Boys 15km event.

The Miami Magoebaskloof MTB race is hosted by Tzaneen Cycling Club and started and finished on the Merensky High School grounds. Nine of their cyclists also participated in the race which offered spectacular scenery and a glimpse of the u/14 quarter final rugby match played on the grounds near the finish line.

Over a distance of 15km, the sub-junior boys were led by Merensky’s Hennie de Wet (1st) and Matthew van der Merwe (2nd).

The more challenging 35km track was attacked by the Sub Junior, Youth and Junior Boys, as well as the Sub Junior and Youth Girls.

Armand Cronjé had an excellent race. Not only was he crowned the “King of the Mountain”, but he was the 1st Junior boy and overall winner out of a pool of 140 cyclists. Sheldon Muller was the 5th Junior boy to finish.

The 1st Sub Junior girl to cross the finish line was Janke Joubert, while Jodi Spaumer took 3rd place in the Youth Girls category.
