Indoor hockey has recently seen renewed interest among the local schools and club teams as the region still reels in the afterglow of the two recently unveiled astropitches. But until recently indoor hockey, a slight deviation of the traditional game, has always taken a backseat.
For the past two weekends a number of mixed teams from local high schools have been playing a friendly indoor hockey tournament at Stanford Lake College.
On Monday,24 September, trialswere held to establish the Limpopo Leopards provincial teams, who will be travelling to Gauteng in October to participate in the All Stars Tournament, as well as to Cape Town in December, where they will play in the PSI Indoor Nationals.
Merensky High School was well represented with Chantelle Meyer and Desiré de Jager who were selected for the U/14 girls team; Dominique Blandin de Chalain, Janké Basson, Charlize Meyer, Bercha Venter, Emma Dalrymple-Hay and Zané Booysen who will be playing for the U/16 girls team as well as Benjamin Freitas who was selected for the U/16 boys team.
