The annual Dirt Dash was huge this year. Held at its usual spot, Magoebaskloof Adventures on the Geor-ges Valley route, a record total of 71 teams entered for the event which brought the total number of participants to a staggering 426 brave mudslingers.

This is the Tzaneen Care Group’s biggest fundraiser event and helps generate the necessary proceeds that will be used for the improvement and expansion of the Tzaneen Cancer Care Centre. The centre aims to effectively offer respite and palliative care for cancer patients through the purchase of medical equipment as well as implementation of programmes beneficial to cancer awareness.

Unlike the previous two, this year’s event was held amid a bright and sunny sky with the slightest of chill in the air to offer some relief to the not-so well prepared athletes on the course. The main sponsor of the 2019 Dirt Dash was Smit & Kie who also had a team competing this year – the aptly named Mind over Mudder. Dave Protter was on site to ensure that any and all medical assistance was on hand if needed while DA Councillor Pierre Cronje egged on the participants as the MC for the day. Teams from as far as Phalaborwa and Louis Trichardt made the trek to take on the infamous obstacle course which most use as training for events such as the Iron Man.

“This year we also decided to give other charities the opportunity to some funds,” explained Melissa Strydom of Tzaneen Care Group. “Vendors were SPCA, SAVF, Lions Club and Rotary Tzaneen Club who almost all sold out! Red Plate and Heinricht Drewes also formed part of the vendors with Panarotti’s who donated R400 with their spinning wheel. All in all it was a fantastic day for the needy members of this community!”

Each obstacle on the course was sponsored by a local individual or business. This year the obstacles were sponsored by Fabric & Décor, Rodney Cooper Estates, Maxim’s, Forest View Cabins, Alesia Boerdery, Paint Pot Tzaneen, Build It, Mahlahla, Allegraine, Manordrift Farm, BF Distributors, Ben Vorster Gym and Panarotti’s.

“From the bottom of our hearts the Tzaneen Care Group would like to thank every business who opened their hearts and supported us to organize this amazing event and who contributed directly to the success! Also to each person, team entrant and supporter, you all went out of your way to attend this very special day.”
