Sport events around the world have seen cancellations and postpones because of the Covid-19. In South Africa this has also been the case with many major events like the international recognised Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race being cancelled.
The latest major sports event in Limpopo to be postponed because of this virus is the much-anticipated Ebenezer Mile Swim that was supposed to be held this Saturday the 21st of March at the Ebenezer Dam.
Earlier the year there were concerns whether the dam level because of the low rain fall experienced over the Summer months will be adequate to host the race.
The race organisers from the Rotary Club of Haenertsburg was adamant that the race will indeed take course as planned albeit on an altered because of the lower water levels. But the organisers did not expect the Covid-19 Virus to interfere in hosting this year’s Ebenezer Mile Swim event.
“We are advising all stakeholders, media, sponsors and swimmers that the Ebenezer Mile Swim will not take place on Saturday the 21st of March”, said Anne Harman, president of the Rotary Club of Haenertsburg and fellow Rotarian Daria Gorbaszewicz, who is the event convenor of the Ebenezer Mile Swim event.
Harman and Gorbaszewicz said they asked Swim South Africa to look at their events calendar for a new date later in the year when the Swim can take place.
“We thank everyone for their support and understanding and ask that this message is shared with all your contacts who are likely to be affected by this event being cancelled in the short-term”, said Harman.
“We will keep all stakeholders informed as we go forward, and new information will be published on our Rotary Club of Haenertsburg’s website and Facebook pages”, added Gorbaszewicz.
